Yin/Yang of Fear

There is a theory…..

…….. ALL emotions boil down to just two: Fear and Love. Since I love to keep things simple— this theory works for me! Naturally, I had to dive into it (because understanding the “why” is what I do!) Here’s what I found:

FEAR = Anxiety, anger, jealousy, hatred. Basically, the stuff that makes your stomach churn and your brain go into overdrive. 😖🤯

LOVE = Joy, compassion, kindness, trust. The warm, fuzzy feelings that make life worth living! ❤️

Now, fear usually gets a bad rap. But keep in mind: fear isn’t always the bad guy in our story. If you recall the Yin and Yang twins from my book, the concept of opposite forces can spin fear around – it can act as a spark and light a fire under our ass to get things done! Yes, fear can kick us out of the procrastination spiral and push us towards action. So there’s hope…..

BUT (👈notice the big but), Fear can also stop us in our tracks before we feel that spark of hope. It can be the roadblock that keeps us from crushing our goals.

Ever feel stuck, overwhelmed, or just ready to pull your hair out and can’t sit still? That’s frustration.

At its core, frustration often stems from one of these fears:

  • Fear of Failure – “What if I bomb this?” “What if they don’t like me?”
  • Fear of Lack of Control – “Why isn’t this going the way I planned?!”
  • Fear of Inadequacy – “Am I even good enough?” “They will blame me and make me look bad.”
  • Fear of Wasted Effort – “What if all this hard work amounts to nothing?”

Relatable, right? But here’s the twist: What is the opposite of Fear? LOVE. ❤️

Awareness: Recognize the Disguise

Sometimes frustration is a neon sign flashing, “HEY, YOU CARE ABOUT THIS!” Yep, your frustration could actually be a love letter from your brain. For example: if you’re mad at yourself for not learning something fast enough, maybe it’s because deep down, you love growth and self-improvement. So, frustration isn’t just about fear—it can also be a sign of passion! (yin/yang concept)

How to: Flip Frustration into Motivation

Since frustration is often fear in disguise, a mindset shift can work wonders:

  • Fear of failure → REFRAME IT AS GROWTH
    “Even if I don’t nail it right away, I’m learning and improving.”
    • lessons are blessings, not failures – appreciate them.
  • Fear of lack of control → FOCUS ON ADAPTABILITY
    “I can’t control everything, but I can control how I respond.”
    • lessons teach us new skills and behaviors – practice them.
  • Fear of inadequacy → REMEMBER PAST WINS
    “I might not have all the answers yet, but I’ve conquered challenges before!”
    • this is my personal go-to that helps me achieve my goals. We tend to forget how we have overcome certain roadblocks – keep a journal of successes and revisit them. ‘Be your own cheerleader!’
  • Fear of wasted effort → TRUST THE PROCESS
    “No effort is wasted—every step teaches me something valuable.”
    • remember – there is a reason for everything. Go with the flow, observe the plan that unfolds before you and see where it takes you.

The Takeaway

Frustration means you care. And caring is awesome! It means you’re invested, passionate, and committed. The trick is to not let fear take the wheel but instead use it as fuel to move forward in a positive way toward success!

Love is considered the greatest virtue because it is eternal and reflects God’s nature. Love is also an action, not just an emotion. Practice love.

So next time fear or frustration shows up, give it a nod, take a deep breath, and remember—you’ve got this!
