Intermittent Fasting

Fast forward 2400 years from Hippocrates’s era and the new catch phrase is “Food does not heal, the body heals itself. “

Unfortunately, Hippocrates’ famous quote from 2400 years ago does not apply in the literal sense today. In ancient times, healers obtained medicine from organic plants and referred to them as healing foods. Today our medicine is derived from chemicals in labs and our food comes from industrial plants, rather than organic plants. Genetically modified food was intended to help our growing population so that food did not become scarce. However, it is difficult for consumers to keep up with the new discoveries and implementation of science and bioengineering. So we should strive to become aware of the foods that are laced with chemicals to make them last longer, taste better, look appetizing, and make us crave more – especially packaged foods. Could this be the reason 20 million Americans suffer from poor gut health?

The global digestive health market has increased over the years from $37.9 billion in 2019 to a projected $69.3 billion for the year 2023.

The good news is that our body is amazing! It self-regulates, it adapts, and yes, it does heal itself. But today, the majority of society will eat more often than not. We consume larger portion sizes at mealtime, eat snacks in between, and drink sugary drinks throughout the day. Top that off with alcoholic beverages to soothe our stressful lives, and it opens us up to chronic disease. Dis-ease does not show up right away. We ignore our symptoms, and a few years down the road we wake up one day feeling bad. Although our symptoms are now loud and clear, we are suddenly surprised about how we got there.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

~Abraham Lincoln

When our body is consuming, processing, and digesting food (or food-like substances) 12-14 hours a day it is difficult to get restful sleep. Intermittent Fasting can help. Intermittent Fasting helps the body to rest, recover, and rejuvenate. I.F. is perfect for weight loss, weight management, anti-aging, and achieving optimal health. In a society where we have little time, high stress, and an obesity epidemic, Intermittent Fasting is a great tool to manage our diet. I use it in my Nutritherapy program with clients to help them achieve their goals.

Practice mindful eating by not eating in front of the TV, computer, in your car, or while on the phone. By eliminating snacking after your evening meal, allows both your mind and body to rest.
